Nguyễn Thị Ngang, affectionately known as Grandma Sáu, is now nearly 90 years old and has been selling bánh mì in Thủ Dầu Một City, Bình Dương, for over 40 years. Her bánh mì costs only 5,000 VND per loaf, and before the pandemic, it was even cheaper—just 3,000 VND/loaf.
Every day, Grandma Sáu wakes up at 2:00 AM to prepare the ingredients, and by 4:00 AM, her humble bánh mì cart is ready to welcome her first customers.
Over the years, despite her children urging her to stop working because of the hardship, she simply couldn’t bring herself to quit. She thinks of her loyal customers, who have supported her throughout the years, and she doesn’t want to abandon them.
For poor laborers and students who stop by early in the morning for a simple but fulfilling breakfast, Grandma Sáu’s bánh mì isn’t just food—it’s a symbol of care and kindness.
