Bình Dương: Over 130 Million VND Donated to Family of Deceased Mother, Ailing Father Raising Four Children

A tragic accident has left a struggling family in Bình Dương in an even more dire situation. While on her way to work, a woman lost her life in a road accident, leaving behind her ailing husband and four young children.

The heartbreaking incident happened to Phan Thị Thanh (born 1985, originally from Đắk Lắk), who lived in a rented house in Phú Lợi Ward, Thủ Dầu Một City, Bình Dương Province. Upon hearing about the family’s plight, numerous benefactors and local authorities came together to rally support, raising funds to help them navigate this devastating loss.

According to Lê Thanh Trung, Director of Bình Dương 24H Media Co., Ltd., after learning about the tragedy from local residents, his team took the initiative to launch a fundraising campaign through the Bình Dương 24H fan page. Their efforts successfully gathered over 130 million VND, which was then handed directly to the bereaved family in coordination with the Red Cross Society of Thủ Dầu Một City (Bình Dương).

A Life of Struggles, Now Shattered by Tragedy

Nguyễn Hoàng Khang (born 1983), Thanh’s husband, shared that he and his wife met and married in 2008. With limited income, they lived in a small rented house in a narrow alley in Thủ Dầu Một, struggling to provide for their four children.

Every day, Thanh would wake up at dawn to buy vegetables from wholesale markets to sell as a street vendor. Meanwhile, Khang, who suffers from chronic bone and joint conditions, was unable to do heavy labor. He stayed home, assisting his wife with selling vegetables and taking care of the children. In the evenings, after Thanh returned, he would take up motorcycle taxi work to earn extra income.

Despite their tireless efforts, the couple’s combined monthly earnings barely reached 5-6 million VND, leaving them constantly in debt just to cover daily expenses. Then, disaster struck.

At dawn on November 30, while on her usual route to the wholesale market, Thanh was fatally struck by a truck on National Highway 13. Her sudden passing left her ailing husband and four young children without their primary provider.

A Community Rallies in Support

Sitting in front of his wife’s altar, Khang gazes at his four children with a look of despair. “We were struggling, but at least we had each other. We worked hard, hoping to raise our children well. Now, she’s gone, and our children are left without a mother. The pain is unbearable,” he said.

Touched by the family’s misfortune, many people shared their story on social media, sparking an outpouring of sympathy and donations. Among those leading the relief efforts was Bình Dương 24H, which successfully raised and delivered over 130 million VND to the family.

Beyond financial aid, numerous individuals and organizations have personally visited Khang’s family, offering both material support and words of encouragement.

Đoàn Thu Hồng, Chairwoman of the Thủ Dầu Một Red Cross Society, emphasized that Khang’s family is among the most disadvantaged in the community. “The generosity of donors has provided them with crucial support to overcome this immediate hardship and rebuild their lives,” she stated.

Upon receiving the donations, Khang and his children broke down in tears. Overwhelmed with gratitude, he expressed that he never imagined receiving such kindness from complete strangers. He vowed to use the funds responsibly, ensuring his children continue their education and grow into good, successful individuals.
