The 1,000 VND noodle shop on Quốc lộ 13, Bình Hòa Ward, Thuận An City, Bình Dương, has become a familiar and heartwarming spot for elderly people living alone, scrap collectors, lottery ticket sellers, students, and labor workers.
With around 10 tables, the shop serves from 4:00 PM to 6:00–7:00 PM, but even before opening, customers are already waiting. Everyone takes turns filling the seats and serves themselves. It’s called a “shop,” but it doesn’t feel like one.
Inside, a glass cabinet is filled with food—instant noodles, boiled eggs, sausages, and various seasonings. Below, a large pot of broth is kept warm over an open flame, simmering with bones, corn, and root vegetables to create a nourishing meal. There’s even fresh fruit for dessert, ensuring a well-rounded, nutritious serving for every guest.
On the glass cabinet, a simple note reads: “Make yourself at home” “1,000 VND noodle shop – If you don’t have money, just pay with a smile.”
Perhaps because of these heartfelt words, every visitor here feels at ease, and everyone leaves with a warm, genuine smile.
This special shop was founded by Ms. Lê Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo (44 years old), who wanted to support struggling individuals, especially migrant workers far from home. She decided to set up the shop right inside her family’s traditional ceramics display area. The funding to keep the shop running comes from her family, friends, and generous donors who join hands to sustain this meaningful initiative.
